Fupper aka Simon Hughes offers up a wonderfull selection of musical driftwood.
Found sounds and atmospheric curios rub shoulders with crackleing tape loops
and dusty breaks. Endearingly lo-fi and drenched in a melancholic fog each track
appears from out of the mist and then disappears again leaving a trail of memory
and loss. Distant fragile guitars counterpoint these sounds and add a classic flavour
to some of the tracks whilst outsider hip hop beats leave footprints across a musical
landscape that whirs and clicks like an old super 8 movie, yet brimming with a playful
inventiveness that is a joy to listen too. His music is a singular and highly personal
postcard that will remain in your head, combining the alt. country vocal delivery of Will
Oldham with the playfulness of Tommy Guerro and the production values of Company Flow,
this album should appeal to fans of all three.
"Shrouded in mystery with a melancholic feel. If it's a tad fucked experimentation
that you're after, then Fupper should fit your bill."
UPDATE ****
"Wilfully eclectic and endearingly restless tales of mysterious things
never quite explained."
COMES WITH A SMILE
"Fupper’s glitchy post-rock workouts make for a captivating and
impressive debut."
MACHINE RECORDS
"The murky lo-fi sound effectivly enchances the atmosphere of folky
meanderings such as the excellent 'Call me any name (But my own)."
ROCKSOUND 8/10
There's bits of electronics, acoustics, drones, folk and some love chucked
in for good measure. This is one of the most interesting records I've heard
in donkeys."
